Translation: Laura

Estribillo 1
Yo quiero ser si otra vez llegaras,
I want to be, if you will come again (1)
Yo quiero ser si tu siempre a mi querer....
I want to be, if you always to my love (2)
La vida seras mas bella para mi
Live will be more beautiful for me (In live you will be the most beatiful for me...) (3)
Que siempre yo sentí
That I always felt
Ante mi juventud (4)
faced with my youth ???
(2x)

Estribillo 2
Ahora a mi me encantarás ??? (I cannot understand well what they sing)
Now I will like you very much
No tengo ganas de llorar
I am not in the mood of crying
Y si los tiempos pasaran,
And if time will pass
Las lagrimas no caen ya mas
Tears do not fall anymore

Eres para mi la flor mas bella del jardín
You are for me the most beautiful flower of the garden
Lo sabes tu que siempre me cuido de ti (5)
You know it that I always take care of you
Guapa tu seras mas bella que eras (I cannot understand well what they sing)
Beauty, you will be more beautifull that you were
Y tú lo sentiras
And you will feel it
Lo voy a preguntar.
I am going to ask it (6)

Para mi seras la flor mas bella de jardín
For me you will be the most beautiful flower of the garden
Lo sabes tu me cuido siempre yo de ti.
You know it, I always take care of you
Guapa tu seras mas bella que eras
Beauty, you will be more beautifull that you were
Y tú lo sentiras
And you will feel it
Lo voy a preguntar.
I am going to ask it

Estribillo 2

Estribillo 1

Estribillo 2 (2X)

(1) This sentence has no meaning.
(2) This sentence has no meaning.
(3) This sentence is incorrect. I can guess what they want to say.
(4) ???
(5) It should be "yo siempre cuido de ti", and no "me cuido".
(6) ...I dont even know what is the meaning of the whole paragraph. I think they just use random words that sound good withouth a real, menainfull intention.

NOTE: Gipsy Kings is a french band. The mebers are descendents of spanish emigrants, but they grew up in France. Their Spanish is not always right and sometimes difficult to understand. This song is specially difficult. I dont understand half of it. The sentences have no meaning! And the grammar is awful. I have just tried to imaging what they were trying to say...

While the Gipsy Kings do not speak a "correct" dialect, their music is amazing and beautiful. I think it's almost like they developed their own dialect over time - as peoples/tribes do when they travel and evolve.

From what I understand the Gitanos speak Calo which is like Andulasian Spanish with Romani words mixed in. Andulasian Spanish has been argued to be its own language, since it is very different from the more common Spanish.

So, it can't really be translated straight across, but the meanings can certainly be understood, I think - maybe this is where the term Duende comes into play - Duende is a belief in a true a euphoric/trancelike personal experience resulting from a listener when he experiences a performance "on a level far beyond what his ears and eyes bring to him. This concept is not to be taken lightly. It is something rarely known to us, the average concert goers. On a different level, duende has come to mean sharing in the cumulative joy and pain that a performer has felt in his lifetime that he brings to his music."

And maybe that's why even when we don't understand the "meaning" of the words literally, we DO understand their meaning.

"The caló seems to be the result of a process that we can call of linguistic change, in the one which, the spanish romany (gypsy speak), after having assimilated the phonology and the Castilian syntax gradually (from which had already taken abundant vocabulary loans also), it was abandoned in favor of a form peculiar of spanish where certain romany specific words were retained. Many of this words (“chaval”, “menda”, etc.) passed to colloquial spanish."
